MH Acoustics · Spherical microphone array

Eigenmike
EM64

A sphere of 64 microphones for capturing sound in 3D. Its form is driven entirely by function.

Outcome In production with MH Acoustics.

The problem

  • Spread 64 capsules evenly over a fixed sphere diameter
  • Meet strict acoustic requirements
  • Stay serviceable, and shed heat from the PCBs

Approach

Master modelling in SolidWorks kept the sphere, the capsule pattern and every internal part in one controlled layout. Printed half-shells tested the capsule wiring and fit.
